A small benchtop sander intended for the hobby model maker or toy maker. With a 25mm(1") belt and a tilting table, the machine is well suited to profiling, finishing or denibbing. The 125mm(5") diameter disc is provided with its own table and mitre fence and is suitable for end grain work. All in all, this is an effective small sanding machine with a host of applications for the hobby and craft workshop. 45mm diameter dust extraction outlets are provided for both belt and disc. Supplied with sanding belt and disc. Please note these machines are designed and manufactured for sanding wood and similar materials and should not be used to abrade or grind metal.

Solid machine, but room for improvement 8/10
I've wanted a reason to have a desktop belt sander for a while and never really had one until I started to play with forging. As you can see for scale (pun intended) a pair of larger than average scales for a kitchen knife. The 1" belt and circular sander made short work of shaping the scales roughly to shape before gluing and worked well even on the brass pins used to secure the handles. There are a couple of things to watch out for, the tables are sturdy but can be a pain to adjust with the retaining pins being less accurate than you would typically like. The machine isn't too noisy and the motor is strong enough to not slow down drastically under load.Changing the belts and making sure tension is right is probably the biggest pain on the machine overall.

Problems setting up.
Although the table sander was quite cheap, as Axminster has a name for good quality, I didn't expect to have problems setting it up. I could not secure the table for the disc sander. No matter how tight I made the clamps, the table moved when a little downward pressure was applied to the table. I tried screwing the clamps up tighter and tighter but this destroyed the clamps There is a splined section inside which is made of plastic and the length of contact is only about 5 mm so excessive tightening destroyed the splines. I replaced the clamps with bolts. Using these I was able at last to secure the table firmly, but discovered that the table was now quite clearly being bent by the pressure of the bolts (not a good thing to do to cast aluminium). Further investigation revealed that the problem was due to excessive clearance between the table and the disc housing to which it is secured. Inserting spacers (washers) between the two cured the problem and would have saved the clamps also if I had realised in time. Anyway the sander, now set up, works very well.

Can be a bit fiddly to set up and change belts but overall good value for money

Disappointed
I was disappointed in that the machine wasn't what I believed to have bought, It concerns the size of the verticle belt. However, I am returning this item, with the hope that they can sell me a belt sander with the appropriate size belt. And, as I believe in this company, I am looking at another piece of machinery to buy for workshop.

Does what you would expect
An effect and robust sander which can be stored away when not in use. Great for getting into those tight corners! Changing the belt is a bit fiddly - you have to unscrew the side panel and the tension releaser isn't brilliant - but I'm pleased with it.

Decent
Wasn't sure which of this type of 'machine' to buy, opted for this one and very pleased with my choice. Stable in use, large enough beds for what I wanted, efficient machine, and I think good value.
