2021 Switch Review after 100+hrs
A great addicting game once you get used to it. It’s difficult in the beginning. You start with a somewhat boring character and you don’t know what you’re doing and die quickly. Once you start getting new characters and understand the items you will have a good time, especially with co-op. Basically every run you will get random items from chests, going from stage to stage after a boss. There is an unlockable modifier that allows you to choose your items as well which makes it more fun imo. I’ve beaten the game in the hardest difficulty (monsoon) at the hardest lvl (99), but I still enjoy replaying and coming up with different item combinations because they all stack and influence each other. I recommend it if you’re looking for a repetitive but addicting 3D rougelike game, especially if you can convince friends to play with you.A few honest Cons:No local coop except wireless coop which require multiple switches and games. The switch version crashes every once in a while, online and offline. The online community is scanty on switch. You’ll find one partner online most of the time, two very rarely. It’ll take a few minutes to 20 minutes to forever to find someone. When playing online you’re at the mercy of your partners, including whatever crazy modifiers (artifacts) they want. They might take all the items and rush to the boss, which is difficult especially for beginners. They also disconnect often. The game is somewhat vague about what the items actually do and how they stack. You’ll be checking that wiki.Sometimes the boss will spawn in awkward positions and become difficult to find. The final stage has some platforming and it’s pretty awkward. Falling also takes out most of your health.Biggest Pros:The characters are unique and fun to use.The game allows you to be overpowered.Because the game is difficult, gradually becoming powerful is rewarding and feels earned.Gives you the first game for free which is not available on Eshop, also it’s cheaper on Amazon.Short review of Risk of Rain 1:Pros:Has local couch coop and local wireless coop.Alot of characters, more than the second.A variety of items, a lot are different from the second game.Cons:Awkward platforming. Falling might make you go in circles. Especially awkward during couch coop.A lot of backtracking due to the linear nature of the environment.Finding the boss can be frustrating.

Really Nice
This game is fun, plain and simple. I got this for my kids because it seemed interesting and different. So glad I did. They really enjoy playing it. They like the art style and all the different level backgrounds, it's challenging for them, but not hard to where they want to give up. They like replaying it in order to figure out how to move forward. I just like the fact they have to think in order to play it. It's a great game, I even enjoy watching them play it, and seeing them excited when they beat a hard enemy or figure out a problem. I hope this helps anyone out interested in this game.

Great game even if you don't have friends. Probably should still get them though
There's a bit of a learning curve at first, but that's more part of the fun to me for games like this. Will there be moments of panic when RNG decides you don't get the last piece to finish your overpowered build to steamroll? Yes. Will it potshot you from behind and end your run even when you finished that overpowered build? Also yes. But that's the point. Rougelikes/Roguelites like these have entrenched themselves as the kind of game where you are MEANT to bash your head against a wall over and over until you either keel over with a concussion, break the wall with sheer stubbornness, or realize the wall is just knee-high and you can go over it.It's a great time. Mostly. Online multiplayer can sometimes be jank, but that's part and parcel of Switch gaming.

Sequel to a Classic
Most people probably haven't heard of Risk of Rain, those that have like myself have been into the game since the original PC release. This version actually comes with the Original game which plays magnificently on the Switch whether in handheld or TV mode. Of course the focus of this being the Sequel, Risk of Rain 2 which turns the original game being a 2d pixel side scroller into a fully fledged 3D 3rd person. The game plays solidly enough, and runs great. The gameplay basically being no different from the original just being adapted to the new style, the gameplay itself is much better with a pro controller. I would also suggest turning off the movement based aiming, it is much easier aiming with the joystick. The one different from 1 to 2 is they switch Jump from A to B, which is easily changeable in the config.Regardless, love this game. A classic whether you play it on Switch or any other console.

Did not know what to expect from this game
I haven't played much of the game yet but it's one of those repetitive games that can be addicting if you like that sort of thing. Its a rinse and repeat sort of game basically seeing how far you can get on each run. I personally was excited to try Risk of Rain 2 but ended up liking Risk of Rain 1 better. The graphics are retro style but that is the charm of it and I also enjoy the simple controls for ROR1. ROR2 was a bit much for me to handle as there is aiming involved and I am not very good at those types of shooter games. For some this game may be too repetitive but if you are one of those that likes that type of game then I would say give this a try as it looks like there a lot of upgrades and customizations for your character here. Hope this review helps you out. Thanks.
