Worked great. Sometimes you just have to go with a name brand.
I purchased this projector after trying another. I had previously purchased a higher resolution Epson projector (XGA) and needed another to project a Halloween rear projection display on another window. I tried to save money by getting a lesser known brand. When it arrived it was really not up to the task. Not HDMI input and text at any distance unreadable. I returned it and got this one. Even though it is 100$ less than the higher end VS340 it compares very favorably. They share manuals and setup. The controls are the same. This one is slightly lower resolution but 200 higher Lumens. Really this small of a difference in brightness is fairly insignificant. The resolution difference is noticeable. In use I projected across my entire bedroom onto a rear projection material and the display was crisp filling the entire window. From outside it was perfect. I used the projector on it's side. A very controversial use and not recommended in everything I read as the heat cannot escape as designed. It does not say either way in the manual. It ran cool for 3 plus hours and worked great. I highly recommend this projector and it's brother VS340. (Reviewed separately here).Bright image.Zoom and focus work well. The keystone (automatic vertical and manual horizontal) work very well and are in my mind a required feature.Setup and projecting in minutes.Fast off.Intuitive controls and menu options.Great manual and lots of online documentation as well.Lots of people with experience with these projectors.Small and light.

Great for the Optishot 2 Golf Simulator...
When I started looking for a projector to use with my Optishot 2 golf simulator, I looked at several different brands/models. I knew I didn't need anything high resolution in a projector because the Optishot 2 doesn't have HD graphics. Over and over again, the VS240 kept popping up as one of the best projectors for the Optishot 2 simulator. However, going against my gut feeling, I went the cheaper route and purchased a very inexpensive "high lumens" projector. I ended up being EXTREMELY disappointed in the quality of the image that the projector displayed. I immediately returned the cheaper projector and purchased this Epson VS240. The difference in quality between the Epson VS240 and the cheaper projector was literally night and day.I have this projector mounted in my garage and the picture is really bright and sharp. I can even use the simulator or watch a movie with the lights on and the picture is still fantastic. The colors pop and image is sharp for an 800x600 resolution projector.I highly recommend this projector for the Optishot 2 golf simulator and casual movie/tv watching. However, if you are looking for something to put in a true "entertainment/theatre" room to watch video in true HD, this is not the projector for you.

We've had a lot of fun watching outside movies with this projector this summer
We've had a lot of fun watching outside movies with this projector this summer! Projects great onto a king sized sheet hung on the side of our garage. When setting it up for a big group where people will be spread out over the yard we hook it up to our bose wave system and it works great! When its just us and the kids and we're sitting close to the projector the speaker output is ample. Also ordered an Apple Lightning Digital Av adapter... to plug one end of the hdmi cord into the lighting adapter and the other into the projector. This cord allows you to have the ipad plugged in while playing the movie if need be. If connecting to a portable dvd player you will need a male to 3.5mm male cord. and a regular old aux cord if connecting to a bigger speaker. The projector, the K size sheet, all of the little cords + a 15ft extension cord and surge protector all fit nicely into an old 2 sided laptop bag for easy all together storage and transportation.

Epson VS240 SVGA Projector did what I asked of it
I needed a projector pronto. I did not want to spend anything for it. This Epson was the least expensive reasonable projector, and the name 'Epson' has currency with me. It was not available locally so I ordered it from Amazon. It arrived quickly. Operation of the projector worked very well for the talk I gave in a largish hall with significant ambient light. Getting the projector running out of the box was reasonably straight forward but the instruction booklet is opaque. It took three calls to the very responsive customer service number to get the remote to advance Powerpoint pages. The good news is that there was a remote in the box, which was not clear to me from what I read before making the purchase. The bad news is that the instruction manual says zilch about how to use it. I could say the same about using a thumb drive. This is not explained in the manual:once again, the customer service rep was helpful. Do not expect to run a Powerpoint program from the thumb drive. You can show slides that are on the thumb drive. Bottom line for me is that the projector did what I asked of it: present a talk about wildflowers to a woman's group on a Saturday afternoon without spending an arm and a leg in the process. Don't expect much help from the instruction manual.

Pretty, pretty, pretty good!
Read reviews and picked Epson. Small, compact, and I hook it up to my Mac and watch movies on my walls. I just ordered a screen for backyard movies and I also ordered Pioneer speakers to hook up to my Mac when I use my projector. The speakers are much better than the audio on the projector, because they are speakers. The projector shoots out hot air and I felt it blow out and warm up the space next to the projector. On a warm day sitting next to the projector you need a fan. On a cold day the warmth would be welcomed. I like the remote control. The picture is nice. The fan is a tad noisy but you don't notice it unless you are really OCD and fixate on other noises. The picture is nice and you can rotate the picture to get it squared up. For the price I am glad I bought the Epson!
