Excellent Value for a Quality Automatic Watch
The media could not be loaded. While I own over a dozen high value automatic watches, I must say that I found this Timex watch to be both a quality made watch and an excellent value. In fact, I've owned this automatic watch for over a year without having any issue with its auto mechanism or stainless steel housing. The Timex Navi XL 41mm Automatic Red Brown is a timepiece that blends vintage-inspired design with modern reliability. As part of Timex’s Navi XL collection, this watch takes cues from classic dive watches, offering a bold aesthetic and automatic movement at an accessible price point. Below is a comprehensive review assessing its key features, strengths, and potential drawbacks to help prospective buyers make an informed decision.Design & Build QualityOne of the standout aspects of the Timex Navi XL is its striking color combination. The red dial immediately catches the eye, providing a unique contrast against the brown leather strap. The 41mm stainless steel case offers a robust yet comfortable presence on the wrist, making it suitable for both casual and business settings. The case has a brushed finish, lending it a refined yet rugged look, while the unidirectional rotating bezel enhances the watch’s functionality for timing purposes. However, the mineral crystal covering the dial is prone to scratches compared to sapphire crystal, which is commonly found in higher-end watches.Movement & PerformanceThis watch is powered by a 21-jewel automatic movement—most likely the Miyota 8215, a well-known workhorse movement used in many entry-level automatic watches. While reliable and durable, this movement lacks hacking seconds, meaning the second hand does not stop when setting the time. The power reserve is approximately 40 hours, which is standard for automatic watches in this price range. One notable advantage is the transparent case back, allowing wearers to view the movement in action. This feature adds an element of mechanical fascination, appealing to enthusiasts who appreciate the craftsmanship of automatic watches.Comfort & WearabilityThe genuine leather strap is comfortable out of the box and complements the watch’s overall aesthetic. However, some users may find that leather wears out faster than metal or rubber alternatives, especially with frequent use in humid conditions. The lug width is 20mm, making it easy to swap out the strap for a NATO or stainless steel bracelet if desired. At 41mm in diameter and 13.5mm in thickness, the Navi XL has a balanced wrist presence—large enough for readability but not overly bulky. The water resistance of 100 meters makes it suitable for everyday wear, including light swimming, though it is not a professional dive watch.Pros & ConsPros:✔ Attractive vintage-inspired design with a bold red dial✔ Reliable automatic movement with a transparent case back✔ Comfortable leather strap with easy strap-change compatibility✔ 100m water resistance, suitable for daily wear and occasional water exposure✔ Unidirectional rotating bezel for added functionalityCons:✖ Mineral crystal is more prone to scratches than sapphire✖ Miyota 8215 movement lacks hacking seconds✖ Leather strap may wear out faster compared to other materials✖ No screw-down crown, which would enhance water resistanceThe Timex Navi XL 41mm Automatic is a well-designed timepiece that offers great value for those seeking an affordable automatic watch with a bold aesthetic. Its combination of vintage styling, solid movement, and everyday durability makes it a compelling option in the entry-level automatic market. However, those seeking a more scratch-resistant crystal, hacking seconds, or a screw-down crown might consider alternatives in the same price range. That said, for enthusiasts who appreciate Timex’s heritage, a bold dial, and an automatic movement at an accessible price, this watch is a solid purchase.Final Verdict — The Timex Navi XL 41mm Automatic delivers style, heritage, and reliability at a competitive price point, making it a great choice for those seeking a distinctive yet practical automatic timepiece.

Nice fit and finish, holds time well, is comfortable on the wrist.
I’ve had this watch for only a short time so my opinion could change. So far, I like this watch, the fit and finish is very good. It looks more expensive then it is, like most leather bands this one is comfortable once it loses it’s initial stiffness. The ratcheting bezel is tight and exacting. My only complaint is that the movement makes noise when the counter weight inside swings around. It’s not terrible, but it is not something I’ve heard before. Beyond that, Timex did a good job with this watch it hold time well, and looks really nice on the wrist. The watch is water resistant but it is not a dive watch. If you are in the market for a reasonably priced (sub $1K) dive/swim watch checkout the Shinola Duck.I’ve would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for an automatic fashion Dive watch from Timex.I am impressed that Timex is improving the quality, design, fit, and finish and offering automatic watches. I am considering the Giorgio Galli S1 as my next watch it’s currently sold out. I wonder if an S2 is on the way?I hope you find this short review useful.Update: I’ve been wearing this watch everyday for almost a year now, it keeps good time ,within the threshold of an automatic watch. It still looks great, but the most unexpected thing is the band.As mentioned, it was comfortable once broken in. The surprise is how the B leather took on a nice patina with exposure to water and sweat. Now the watch looks even better. If you are struggling with keeping the band or replacing it hang in there, the leather will reward you with an beautiful patina. Just wear the watch, get it wet, go on adventures, and you will end up with a good friend. The other update is rotor noise sound went away. I have no idea why it just doesn’t make that sound anymore.Cons: it has a small chip in the mineral glass. I smacked it against a seat while boarding an airplane. The chip did not go all the way through the glass and is not visible, but you can feel it when to touch it. I might get it repaired if it becomes a problem.Still satisfied, will report back later.

Timex Automatic Gunmetal SS Case with 100m water resistance for less than MSRP $260!
At introduction of the Timex Navi XL in 2019, this watch used the Citizen/Miyota 8215 movement. Though you can't find it on Timex website, nor forums or watch review sites, I've figured out that this watch is now using the Citizen/Miyota 8315 movement. Due to the fact that the second hand hacks when the crown is pulled out to set the time. What this means is this iteration of the watch now went from a 41 hours to 60+ hours power reserve. Accuracy and frequency are the same as well as the number of jewels. It appears that the 8315 is just the next upgraded version of the Miyota 8 series movements. Hand winding is still available as well as the automatic rotor winding. For those new to mechanical automatic watches, after unboxing you need to hand wind for about 20 turns when you first get it to wind the main spring. If you have it off longer than a weekend, and the main spring is fully unwound and the watch is no longer ticking, you have to repeat the hand wind process to get the main spring fully wound. Also of note, mechanical watches, for the most part, are not as accurate as quartz watches. At least not at this price point. There are some high end mechanical automatics that produce accuracy to rival quartz. Please don't go down that rabbit hole, as you will find that you would end up joining the watch enthusiasts community. I mean, you only have two arms, why would you need more than two watches. Next thing you know, you have a whole drawer full of watches.Hope this helps.
