Reflect, Expect, Check, Explain: Sequences and behaviour to enable mathematical thinking in the classroom

An excellent book! Full of great ideas and suggestions for developing teaching practice further, encouraging pupils to think mathematically. The book is really interesting to read, due to Barton's friendly and chatty nature. I really liked all the prompts in the book, encouraging you to reflect on how the strategies discussed could work in your own context with your own classes. There are also lots of examples of practice questions to have a go at to really engage you in understanding the techniques presented. The book is also organised so that different sections could be used well in department sessions or small groups, sparking further teaching and learning discussions. Cannot recommend this book enough.

Easy to read. I was able to pick up and put down at my leisure. As a maths teacher I often don’t have time to read at length. I am also not a keen reader, especially educational books. However, this book was bite size in topics with lots of good ideas and thoughts I agree with. Craig has done a fantastic job and has done an immense amount of research for this book. As a practising teacher Craig has used the techniques he has discussed. I enjoy his writing style. As a maths teacher myself his ideas make sense to me. I have used a lot of what I have read.

I've loved everything that Craig Barton does since I listened to his first podcast. The work that he puts in is outstanding - the maths community owes a great debt to Craig. This book is a nice follow on from his first: How I Wish I'd Taught Maths. The techniques and processes in this book are very well thought out and intriguing - I can't wait to try them out.The only downside: there are a lot of typos in this book which took the shine off it for me.Thank you, Craig.

After reading Craig Barton's "How I Wsh I'd Taught Maths" and finding that volume superb and highly influetial on my teaching, I was very excited to hear that this second bookby Barton would be appearing. "Reflect, Epect, Check, Explain" is another great book: thought-provoking, witty and persuasive in it's detailed espousal of effective and rich teaching practices. I will be re-reading, annotating and sharing with my teaching colleagues this worthy follow-up. Ifyou teach Maths please buy this book.

This is a great book for any maths teacher who is looking to include research-informed ideas into their lessons. The book is structured in a way that allows for the reader to take in the information in sizeable chunks.A fantastic book that allows for you to implement amazing ideas immediately.
