Worth the money and power?
Vehicle: 2000 911 Carrera 4: Based off some of the other high priced kits out there and its CA smog legal, I would say its worth the money. Install instructions were fairly straight forward but a bit confusing in some areas and I'm very good at this stuff. If you have any Q's, look on Youtube as there as a few videos that explain the install. The only issue I ran into was the plastic air tube intake (from K&N to the outside intake "wing") did not line up. Had to place an extra screw into the K&N plastic intake tube so it would align correctly. The sound is very nice and a noticeable difference over stock. Power increase..... well hard to say. There wasn't a "wow" moment when I tested/drove it so maybe a few extra horses (5-8 "ish"). Overall I'm satisfied and would recommend.

Quality good, some aspects lacking
K&N makes great products. It's been debated whether or not the OEM Porsche air-box is actually restrictive. Regardless of that, the K&N kit is a nice change for the engine bay. Eliminating the OEM airbox gives you a bit more space in the engine bay. Build quality of this product is excellent. The installation instructions were pretty horrible. Poorly written with low quality pictures. Some of the parts in the installation pictures appeared to be prototypes and did not match what was included in the kit. Also, just a note, depending on which type of engine lid you have, this filter will be directly exposed to the opening in the engine lid (with the fan), allowing water to spill directly on to this filter should it be raining. The kit includes a type of cloth cover for the filter which is supposedly water resistant.Be sure to use ALL of the mounts, including the one which requires drilling into the latch. If you do not, this kit will NOT be safe to drive with as it will rub against your pullies and belts. The space between the back of this kit and the serpentine belts are VERY narrow.Getting the OEM plastic intake tubing to line up with the engine lid once you've installed this kit is challenging. Overall, it's a nice replacement for the giant OEM box and flat filter. Gives the car a much deeper sound upon acceleration.

Now my Porsche can breathe
Lots of parts to put together before the actual install. Directions could be better. At idle, sounds like stock but around 2500rpm it gets a deep strong tone and extra 25hp is easy to notice. Probably the cheapest way to gain considerable horsepower.

Aspirated rumble
After replacing the OEM intake system I noticed a nice engine rumble and few horse power increase. Very pleased with it. Installation is very simple and an it may take about an hour as it is more to attach than the filter, but nothing complicated at all. I would definitely recommend it for the rest.

Sounds great
If you are buying one for your 996 there are a few things you should know. If you are a porsche guy, its likely you read the message boards. If not you should really do that before buying one. Let me say this, if you drive in heavy rain, use a touchless or high pressure carwash, or anything that dumps a ton of water on the car be prepared to hear the engine moaning or even worse, a stall... The stock airbox is sealed with the exception of the snorkel - this unit allows the filter to get some sun - or rain for that matter. Also, many of us that know and love K&N know that you wash them and re-oil them. NOT THE CASE WITH PORSCHE. You run the risk of damaging your mass airflow sensor if it is oiled - even a little bit. If you plan to use this it is really important to use a mild cleaner to wash, rewash and soak in clean water a few times. The fact is the oil has ruin the mass airflow sensor - too many comments on the message boards to overlook this potential issue. It is also just as important to use the rain sock provided with the kit. So the good stuff - if you have a stock exhaust - sound is insane - the intake noise fantastic, exhaust note think throaty. I have a custom exhaust on my 996 - at low RPM i see no difference - when its screaming at 4k plus it sounds SWEET!One thing I am not sure of is the "cold air" aspect. So the filter does sit right under the engine cover - this is vented of course. That being said, My engine bay at normal operating temp didnt seem to feel that warm - with all of the stock air intake gone, i feel the heat rising much more. Maybe this is a good thing since the stock box could have been trapping it - i dont know, just my observation.Performance wise - i see nothing - just like changing an air filter. Fun/sound factor - 10+

Save yourself the hassle
This by far is the worst product design. Usually aftermarket product just suck. K and N have been consistent. The fit for this upgrade is flawed. Very little clearance. The hose design for the throttle body must be the worst I've seen. It's essentially a condom and not an actual hose fitting. I ripped it out of my car and installed the old air box.

Super sound! Easy installation
This intake is really worth the price for my 2005 997! Great sound and throttle more sensitive. This was made for the 3.6 996 but also fits all 997's mk1. Only had to adjust one bracket. Installation took about 2 hours. Also A+ for delivery!I made my order on tuesday and received my order on thursday morning in Belgium!!

Throws CEL codes.
Love the look, love the sound, performance increase is tough to measure but feels more responsive. I get check-engine-lights after a few hundred miles with this intake indicating a too rich mixture. This is apparently a widely known problem with no solution.
