Purpose Explained
If you are looking to truly address wellness and not just health, this is a book you should read. Far too many books in the health space neglect the psychological dimension, but not this one.In terms of purpose, this book delivers a nice blend of science, philosophy and personal experience.Purpose is one element within the psychological dimension of wellness/wellbeing and this book does a nice job of explaining it and how and why the reader can best use it. Living with purpose is critical to living the good life. The author’s interest in purpose began when the Strechers used a child’s health crisis to stop taking their lives for granted and started creating their lives. The book is divided into four sections. In the five chapters of Part 1, Strecher lays out his framework of purpose and provides the reader with a six step model for finding one’s purpose. In the chapters of Parts 2 and 3, Strecher shows how purpose relates to: energy, activity, willpower, creativity, sleep, eating and presence. In the two chapters of Part 4, Strecher examines purpose and resilience and provides a thorough review and wrap-up.I found the book to be an easy read and for the most part engaging. I would rate Part 1 as the most interesting and engaging for me personally. If you are interesting in learning more about life purpose or you are in a helping related profession, you would be wise to read this book. As noted by Dean Ornish, M.D. in his review of this book: “Purpose and meaning are at the heart of healing.”

Life on Purpose - Approach and Usable
I was hopeful that reading Vic Strecher’s Life on Purpose would be an engaging experience, blending his own personal stories with cutting edge science and research findings. Not only does this book deliver on those objectives, but it also incorporates plenty of humor and a whole lot of deeply felt emotion—across the range from joy to despair. He has poured his genuine soul in to this approachable and usable book.In sum, this book will provide you with concrete tools and inspiration to both find a real purpose to guide your life and ways and approaches to lead your life to give you a better chance of achieving your purpose. I am not an expert at self-help books, but this struck me as digestible and applicable—lots of specific suggestions that can be acted upon without more research required.I am glad that Vic has shared so much of his self and his work in this book. It is likely to make a big and positive difference for many—I hope that it does!

Falls Short of the Goal
While an interesting read, the author falls way short of giving any useful ideas or suggestions for finding your own purpose.

Life on Purpose makes a difference!
I just finished reading Dr. Strecher's book and my mind is filled with the potential for us all to find and live every day with purpose. I work in healthcare as a worksite wellness consultant and health educator. My main objective is to support folks toward making long lasting healthy behavior change. I have found myself referring to Dr. Strecher's SPACE as a way of "decoding" what for many seems to be a hopeless and painful process toward health improvement. This book is a must read for anyone who has struggled with multiple attempts at weight loss, healthy eating, fitness etc. His framework for finding your purpose(s) is inviting and encouraging. Dr. Strecher is a wonderful storyteller who is able to take a difficult and "dry" topic of discussion (chronic disease management and health promotion) and helps us understand through his difficult journey that, when you are brave and take time to listen to your heart's desire, you can turn the corner onto a better path.

I discovered that I was already happy and I need to be grateful for that
The book is very inspirational. I read this book and picked out a few things I needed to work on myself so as to live on purpose. It opened my mind to what I really want out of life. I discovered that I was already happy and I need to be grateful for that. I highly recommend it.

Can't get it out of my mind!
Mind provoking and thoughtful in it's approach. It gives a nice balance between the scientific and spiritual. I completed this book last week and still can't get it out of my mind. It resonated with me in ways that I couldn't have foreseen. I can't even remember now why I did look this book up but I'm truly glad that I did. The book says nothing I haven't heard before, yet I find myself thinking about my purpose in life repeatedly throughout the day. Maybe it's the writing style or the personal story that is sprinkled throughout. Whatever it is... I am thankful for the renewed sense of drive it has given me.
