3M Thin Mouse Pad - A Mouse Pad That Exceeds Expectations!
100% recommend! I've been a fan of ultra-thin mousepads for years and this 3M mousepad is one of the best I've found! The speed and performance are excellent, allowing me to complete any mouse task faster. I don't feel the performance is oversold - this pad is awesome! Time will be the final test though. as thin pads typically wear down smooth and then no longer track well. Hopefully the longevity of this 3M pad will meet or exceed its superior performance.

Great idea? Pretty much! Saves power? Maybe.
This is a rewrite of my original review since, as it turns out, the first mouse pad I received was defective. It DOES have a tacky backing to keep it in place, so my most serious objection initially was wrong.I had been having problems with imprecise mouse cursor movements. I bought this in hopes it would make things better. It does seem to help, but I am not so sure about the claim of saving batter life. So far, I see little difference.I am testing it with a Kensington Bluetooth mini mouse with replaceable AA batteries, and two different Logitech mice, one Bluetooth MX1000 rechargeable and one Anywhere Unifyer connected mouse with replaceable AAs. I use only Duracell Ultras in all my equipment. So far I do not see much difference in power usage, but with the advanced power management built into my HP Envy laptop, it would have to be a BIG difference to so up so soon. Time, and lots of testing, will tell. I'll get back to you on that.First off the pad is very hard, very stiff and very, very thin. Not like a regular pad at all. Still trying to decide if that is a good thing or a bad thing. The back of the pad is tacky like, as has been mentioned, a post-it note, only more so. It does stay in place but if you move it around a lot from place to place, it tends to pick up dust and debris. Cleaning with a damp cloth appears to fix most of that. The pad comes with a cover over the tacky back that must be peeled off, but it is not marked and there are no instructions about it. You have to really read the fine print to figure it out or, as in my case, have some one point it out to you. It would be better if that backing cover had "REMOVE ME" printed all over it, making it idiot, or Greywoolf, proof! :)After you have locked it in place, the mouse does function well. I see some people complaining that they want a solid black or colored pad, They are missing the point. The pattern visually printed on the tracking surface is deliberately designed so that an optical mouse quickly and accurately picks up any movement. It does work and well.In fact. it works so well that when I first started to use the pad I had a bad tendency to over run or blow past my intended cursor location point. I had to adjust my mouse settings significantly and cut my acceleration to zero and reduce the speed. The coefficient of friction and texture of the pad still feels a bit strange and if you don't adjust your mouse settings, it will wear you out with the over-tracking, but I think that is a matter of just getting use to the pad as opposed to the ones you have been using. All in all, once the adjustments are made (and that should be suggested in the instructions/packaging but is not) it is a good, workable pad. The only real complaint, if it is one, is that I wish it came in some different and larger sizes, as this one is just a tad on the smallish side. Fantastic product
Having not owned a desktop computer for home use since around 2007, I decided to buy one recently for work from home duties due to the advantages a desktop has over laptops in the area of getting work done with a larger screen and better performance. Went with a 27 inch iMac with Retina display. Fantastic machine, but the Magic Mouse that comes with it did not glide smoothly on the wooden desk I'm using. It was frustrating that the mouse was more jerky and less precise than the old fashioned corded ball mouse I was using in 1994 on Windows 3.11. Surely in 20 years mouses haven't gone backwards this bad I thought to myself rhetorically. I tried lots of different things, packing tape on the mouse glides helped for about 4 hours until the glossiness wore off and I had to re apply the tape. An old cloth mouse pad helped a little, but the movement was still way more notchy than the mice I remember from the 90's and early 2000's. I then figured out one of the thin plasticky mouse pads might end my frustration. Jumped on Amazon, saw this, and ordered it. Being impatient, I thought surely I could find this mouse pad locally, or at least one similar. The local big box office store south of me had only cloth ones. The big box office store north of me though, score, had a similar product. It is round and lacks a sticky back and has more foam backing, but I couldn't wait and bought it and some two sided tape. Mouse problem solved. The movement with a thin plasticky mouse pad made the Magic Mouse slide nearly as good as the old fashioned 90's mice. Close enough anyway. Jumped back on Amazon and tried to cancel the order of this mouse pad. Too late, cancel request denied as order was too far along. Oh well, I'll have a backup I thought to myself. Two hours ago this 3M mouse pad arrives. This thing is even better than the generic round one from the office supply store. Way better. So better it actually makes my Magic Mouse seem even BETTER than the good old fashioned cheap Logitech ball mice from the 90's. Those things were quick when they needed to be and precise when you slowed down. Now, I have the best of both worlds, a modern, cordless optical mouse with the fluid movement of an old fashioned mouse. If you are reading this review and wondering if a mouse pad really can make much difference for a Magic Mouse (these things are heavy and any surface resistance causes them to be jerky and imprecise when slowed down especially on a high resolution large monitor where you have to mouse long distances one moment then short precise ones the next) I'd highly recommend this mouse pad.
