One of the Best Jazz Albums of all times.
Jazz as it was meant to be. Respect for the original score and presented in a new and exciting format. Manne, a great drummer, and Previn on the keyboard before he became widely known and Leroy as one ofthe finest back up bass players of the 50' and 60's. Get a sippin drink, sit back and enjoy!

A clear Jazz rendition of a celebrated show's tunes.
An excellent performance by superb musicians of several tunes from this timeless show. Andre Previn on piano leads the trio comprised of Shelley Manne on Drums and LeRoy Vinnegar on Bass. I particularly enjoyed the selections and the dynamic interpretations. This CD should be in the collection of all knowledgeable Jazz followers.

Small combo, but great performance
I grew up on Broadway musicals, and this was a great reminder of how good the music was.

With Friends Like These...
This is one of the best jazz ensemble pieces ever recorded. Andre Previn on piano leading the way . From about 1955 into history. End of story.

This is a real jazz classic, recorded in 1956 with Shelly Manne, Andre Previn, and Leroy Vinnegar. The group could not be tighter, with Previn leading the way. It's only a trio, but the approach to each song is fresh and on target. Also recommended: "Chet Baker Plays the Best of Lerner and Loewe"

Fantastic
We actually had this "album" many years ago and made a mistake of lending it to someone, never to be seen again. Now we have it again and it's even better than we remembered it. A classic. And the speed with which we received our order was fabulous.

Somewhat Disappointed
I think this album is not as good as it could have been, even by the standards of its era. Where is "The Rain In Spain"? The version of "With a Little Bit of Luck" is not the one I thought it was. I was not aware of how Andre Previn collaborated with Shelly Manne on a whole series of albums beginning with this one. It would be interesting to know how jazz critics view it after more than fifty years.
