The Whole Goat Handbook: Recipes, Cheese, Soap, Crafts & More

I've had goats for less than a year, and as a dedicated nerd I've read all sorts of books about their care, and dairy etc... I'm not sure why I picked this up but it's a really nice source of information on the various things you can do with your goat and goat by-products. I have two Nigerian Dwarf goats, so I'm mostly interested in the dairy/cheese side of things - but the recipes for goat meat (ohhhh sad!) have worked great with my venison. I also find the sections on crafting interesting and I've decided to venture into so soap making! There is more than I care for in here about knitting and felting - but that's my problem not the books! Plus after reading through it, I've saved the cashmere (undercoat) this spring so I have a nice bundle of the stuff to use either for felting or I could spin it*.Good: Clean layout Beautiful Photography Easy to follow directions Lots of ideas will be generated as you read through this!Bad: Too much felting (just me?) I'd like more cheese recipes - some cheese are pictured but there isn't a corresponding recipe :(*Most likely it will take up a place in the garage and terrify whomever has to clear out my house when I die - surely they'll think it's a mummified cat or something!

A very great book to have on hand.

I have had goats in the past, but it has been awhile until I recently got back into them. This book has been a wealth of information to remind me about certain items related to raising and caring for goats. There are also several great recipes in the book for the use of the excess milk. This is a must read for anyone wanting to get into goats or for the seasoned professional to keep as a great reference tool!!

I purchased this book to help me with a few new ideas for my goat milk. I've tried several and it's all been a hit. The information in the book is interesting. It covers how to cook goat as well as how to use the hair for crafting. However I will just stick to the goat milk chapters. I could never hurt one of my sweet girls.

Lots of beginner info and resources with some ideas and a few recipes Not what I would great, but fair for a engineers get interested in or avoid. City folks think listening to country music makes them "country" but is is a lie. People living in the city could read and infanticide maybe?

My parents loved this gift as they have bought some goats for their farm and didn't know a whole lot about them. They're definitely more likely to read a book then get on the internet to do research so it was a no brainer! Lots of good info inside!
