Good enough to give as a gift, well made and pretty.
There are so many leather journals available on Amazon and this is one of the cheapest (lowest in price) in this B6 size. I kept thinking I should buy one of the 30+ dollar ones to make sure the quality was nice. But the quality on this one is great! It smells like new shoes, which doesn't make me mad. The leather is pliable and soft but not floppy-- not too thick or thin. I was worried it would be stiff and cardboardy-- not at all. It doesn't pull up, wrinkle, or change color when you roll it and I scratched it with my fingernail and it was very hard to leave a scuff mark. The paper is thick and just what I expected for this kind of journal. I tugged on the signatures and they seem sturdy. There is some slight staining on the pages where the signatures are tied in the middle, but it doesn't bother me as I expect that sort of quirk/imperfection in a handmade good.I opted for this one over another even lower priced one because the signatures are sewn in with what looks to be waxed linen and I thought that would hold up better than leather straps that could become brittle. I like the wraparound cover, it's a nice way to get yourself psyched up to write. This was 16.99 when I bought it and I think it's good enough to give as a gift, but it doesn't come in any kind of gift packaging like some of the other notebooks available on Zon. Still, I would rather pay so much less for such a nice journal and wrap it myself.Would buy again for sure.

A unicorn in suede leather
This is well-crafted work of art that just so happens to double as a highly functional, esthetically pleasing journal. It contains 5 generous reams of handmade, unlined paper (GLORY BE!!), all of which are securely attached to the journal w/2 suede leather ties, assuring each ream is positioned & safely secured. There are 2 page markers to ensure the work of writer, artist, IT professional or even young journalist can be quickly & easily referenced. As exciting as is the marriage of form & function w/beauty, generous proportions & craftsmanship, one of the most exciting aspects of this work of art is its authentic affordability. Even the most struggling of novice writers & cartoonists can afford the best tools w/ which to work!I without reservation, I recommend this journal as well as the man who is its creator, craftsman & purveyor. I sincerely hope he receives the support, encouragement & loyalty I believe his hard work has earned for him.

Made With Care...
I have purchased several similar journals, and decided to try this one. It was the only one that came with a note and contact information for any concerns I might have, which of course, there were none. The cuts are made more carefully than the others I’ve bought, and the strap is cut with precision, straight and even, rather than being made from scrap with an edge of varying width, as the others have. It is also slightly longer, which I prefer. It is handmade paper, so expect what comes with that. In all the journals I get with handmade paper, there may be one or two pages that have a fleck of something other than white, and there may have an occasional, ever-so-slightly thicker or thinner spot. Not enough to leave a lump, and not enough to have a thin spot. Just for those people that are used to machine-made paper, it isn’t machine-made paper. That is what gives it its lovely appearance and writing experience. If you don’t want the qualities and the inherent nature of handmade paper, don’t buy handmade journals. If you enjoy the qualities, then they are for you. The other journals I bought used leather strips to lash the paper in. This journal uses waxed cord, which keeps it more pliable and more durable over time. The leather strips would be hard to keep conditioned, it would be quite a meticulous task, and one still wouldn’t be able to get to every bit of them, and over time, they could dry out and crack and break, whereas the waxed string won’t do that. Leathers strips also add to the thickness, because of the knots to tie them in between each section of pages, so this one isn’t as thick as the others, because it doesn’t have the bulky knots between each section of pages. It’s obvious that much care is going in to the making of these journals, and I’m quite happy with mine. You won’t find anyone else as concerned with the quality and with your satisfaction. Of that, I’m sure.

Really nice - if yours has an odor it will fade
First, the good. This is attractive, well-constructed (but handmade; it's not going to look mass-produced), and a definite value for the money. I bought the Cherry Red 8x6 journal, and the color is not what I would call cherry red, but it does exactly match the picture, so go more by their picture of the item, not so much the color description. The cover is pliable but sturdy, and the paper is thick and a bit rough. My fountain pen does not bleed through. The one negative is the odor. When I got it, it smelled like some sort of preservative, which is understandable if the seller had mold issues at one time, as some reviews suggest. Also, I got the 8x6 size, and I notice the 7x5 size is by far most popular, which may mean that they don't have to store those as long, so that could be why mine smelled so strongly.Anyway, I basically set it on a windowsill the day after I got it. There was a decent breeze, and I kept going in and opening it to new sections, turning it around, etc. At the end of the day I'd say 90% of the offensive odor was gone, and now a week or so later, I can barely smell it at all, it's just leather and paper.

Looks beautiful
The cover is beautiful, great quality leather. However, the pages are lower quality. This would be good only for writing, not so much drawing the pages are so soft. They start to rip and deteriorate if you use pencils.

Exactly like the picture
I got this as a present for my nephew who likes to draw. It is exactly as pictured. He and his sister made references to different movies that have had that type of journal in them. It has a good feel to it. Very picturesque and good quality!
