fantastic little device

I love this! its such a simple little device but works so effectively.I Originally bought this for my work laptop I work in IT and i am away from my desk a lot and have to lock my computer a lot for Security reasons and i thought this could Save me some time.I was so Impressed I ordered a second for my home Computer.this little device works seamlessly with windows hello on windows 10 and from a locked screen it does unlock the computer in under a second. i was so Impressed with this i kept locking the computer just to see how Quickly i could unlock it.I found it to also be extreamly accurate.it would be nice if you could log into Websites using it, you can download a bit of software from their website for websites but i found it a bit flackey and a bit of a gimmic that only worked with internet explorer. But Perhaps with a future windows update it may happen. But that aside this is a fantastic device that will save you time and help add that extra layer of security on your computer for a very cheap price compaired to the same devices From different manufacturers.highly Recommend

Definitely Recommended!

After getting a surface book, the ease of logging in without a password/pin had me hooked. As a result I started having a look at windows hello gear, only problem is they're extremely expensive... Until I found this.Honestly this is by far the easiest thing to use, just plug it in and windows instantly recognises it and gets you to setup your fingerprint. Which by the way is very very fast, it recognises fingerprint incredibly fast, its become second nature when I unlock my desktop to tap this thing and that's it, I'm in.Compared to other windows hello gear, this is by far the best for price, ease of use and speed. It just works and it's so good when you find something that doesn't need huge amounts of configuration or setup.I highly recommend that you get this is you are in the market for Windows hello gear!

Consistently reliable fingerprint recognition but developed an odd fault after a month

Whilst deploying Windows Hello for Business I purchased one of these for some initial bio-metric fingerprint testing and I can say that these work really well. I've had mixed results with some other fingerprint readers with them not recognising fingerprints consistently meaning you have to press them multiple times but that does not seem to be the case with this one from PQI.Setting the device up on Windows 10 was really straightforward. Just be aware that the dongle doesn't ship with any driver software so you'll need to download it from PQI's website prior to installing the dongle to your PC. The driver software comes as 2 MSI files for x86 and x64 versions of Windows and also includes some utility software for the fingerprint reader (which isn't actually required to use the fingerprint reader). It appears this PQI fingerprint reader is actually a fairly generic Synaptics WBDI Fingerprint Reader that has been re-badged.The sensor area of the dongle is quite small, certainly compared to ones that are built into laptops. When registering your fingerprint be sure to try and capture more angles and different parts of your finger rather than just the same place multiple times. I'd also recommend registering an additional fingerprint but use the same finger again and this will reduce the chances of it not recognising your finger first time every time.Due to the shape and orientation of the sensor area it can be quite cumbersome to use when plugged directly into a USB port. I purchased a StarTech 5ft USB 2.0 extension lead (https://www.amazon.co.uk/StarTech-com-5ft-Desktop-Extension-Cable-Black/dp/B001K9BFB8) which has a vertically mounted female port and works perfectly for having the fingerprint sensor on your desk in an easily accessible location. However, after about 5 weeks of using the fingerprint reader regularly it developed an unusual fault. Normally the LED on the sensor is off unless it's waiting for a fingerprint (i.e. at the logon page) at which point it then lights up green and once you have logged in it then turns off again. My sensor decided that its LED will now always be lit red and when waiting for a fingerprint it also lights up the green LED leaving a sort of off yellow colour instead! Something must have gone wrong with the LED controller on the dongle which has meant the red LED is permanently lit now. The fingerprint reader is still working perfectly though so it hasn't affected the reliability of the product but the constantly lit LED is an annoyance as it's on my desk.Having tried the dongle in other computers it's clearly an issue with the dongle so I've decided to return it and buy another one as this doesn't appear to be a common fault.Pros:- Quick and reliable fingerprint recognition- Small and compact making it suitable for laptops too- Uses a Synaptics chipset which is a well known brandNeutral:- Due to the shape and orientation of the sensor you may benefit from a USB extensionCons:- Quite expensive for a fingerprint reader but there doesn't seem to be many options- Mine developed a fault after 4 or 5 weeks of use. Hopefully that's just a one-off though.- Does not come with driver software

The best way to get Windows Hello on your laptop!

Why i hadn't bought one of these sooner i'll never know.Having just purchased a Razer Blade 14" gaming laptop i was hoping for some Windows 'Hello' support. Alas the laptop doesn't possess the required hardware to support it. Bugger. My other portable stand in laptop was a Microsoft Surface Pro 3 for which i'd purchased the optional keyboard 'cover' which had a built-in optional fingerprint reader. This was superb for logging into windows and doing other security based tasks like logging into accounts etc rather than remembering passwords or typing in a pin code. This go me thinking one day whilst doing what i call my amazon windowshopping (always a dangerous thing to do). A quick search revealed that my laptop could indeed have Windows Hello support, and cheaply as well. The Mini USB Fingerprint reader is packaged in an attractive cardboard sleeve with it presented behind a moulded plastic window (a bit like SD Cards). There isn't any software to install, just plug it in to a spare USB socket on your laptop near to where you're natural 'unlocking' finger would be best placed - mine is in a right side USB port.Initially nothing really happens. You have to go in to 'Windows - Settings - Accounts - Sign-In Options' where you'll then find 'Windows Hello' displayed with a prompt to set up your 'fingerprint reader'. The setup process is simple and very similar to mobile phones with the same function. Simply put your finger over the sensor multiple times and follow the onscreen instructions to register a fingerprint. You can add quite a few but i've only used one.It works perfectly
