We Aren't So Different, After All
- Synopsis: Life was the usual routine with its fast-paced, city life. Until one fateful day, an army that mysteriously appears, begins to attack the citizens. The JSDF quickly responds, and in conjunction with the police force, as well as many others, they eventually route the enemies. After the incident, they discover a mysterious gate. As such, the government decides to send their soldiers to explore what lies beyond this gate. And thus, the adventures of our protagonist begins.==========================================================================================================- Comments: Contains a mix of Fantasy, Military, Action, and plenty of other genres. Feels natural and interesting in how it was presented. The characters don’t always get an in-depth backstory, but the interactions are often entertaining. Not to mention plenty of cute ladies, too. Let the waifu wars begin?- Analysis: Conflict is always going to be around. So long as people cannot see eye-to-eye with each other, there will often be wars that eventually follows. History serves as a good example of this. Many people tend to focus on the aspects that makes other people different from oneself. For those that are able to see past these differences, and/or embrace them, this can often times lead to friendship/relationships.- Features: English audio, and Japanese audio with English subtitles. Includes 24 episodes on 3 Blu-rays. The run-time is about 10 hours. This anime is rated TV-MA for violence, blood, language, and sexual content/fan-service. Feel free to refer to my low-quality PS Vita pictures as a reference.- Conclusion: An entertaining anime that involves much conflict, and befriending others from another world via a mysterious gate. The interactions can be whacky to help lighten the mood, but there are plenty of serious underlying tones, as well. There's plenty of characters to like/dislike with their wide range of various designs/personalities. If you’re a viewer ready for a long ride mixed with Fantasy, Military, Action, cute girls, and fan-service, this anime might be for you.==========================================================================================================- Recommendations: Re:Zero, Rokudenashi Majutsu Koushi to Akashic Records, Blue Exorcist, Cross Ange, Hagure Yuusha no Estetica, Tenchi Muyo! War on Geminar, Lord Marksman and Vanadis, Needless, Those Who Hunt Elves, Full Metal Alchemist, Code:Breaker, Tokyo ESP, Buso Renkin, BlazBlue: Alter Memory, Sky Wizards Academy, Tales of the Abyss, Black Bullet, God Eater, Claymore, K, Hyperdimension Neptunia The Animation, and Persona 4 The Animation.

GATE
Have you ever wondered what it would be like if a bullet met a sword, a fighter jet met a dragon, and special forces met demi-gods? well this show answers that question for you.One day in Japan, a man named Itami was on his way to a convention to buy manga and see trailers to new shows when suddenly, a large structure appears down town. the doors open and out marches an army of men in armor with wyverns, orcs and other monsters at their side. the invaders attack civilians and kill countless hundreds. many are taken back through the gates as prisoners. the JSDF is deployed and the invaders are quickly disposed of. however the damage has been done. many civilians are dead, injured, or unaccounted for. the gates are sealed off and the JSDF stages patrols to watch incase a second wave arrives. the senate debates on what should be done. should they destroy the gate? or send their forces in to attempt to rescue the kidnapped civilians and terminate the ones responsible for this attack? the decision is made and the JSDF army is sent through the portal. on the otherside of the gates is a world of dragons, monsters and magic. elves, orcs, goblins, unicorns and gods. but the JSDF has no time to admire the scenery. the JSDF must establish a foothold in this world and set up a base. because it won't be long until they draw unwanted attention onto themselvesIn short, this movie is the original Stargate movie, but instead of sending one team, they send a entire army. But just to let you know, the main character is a big time anime nerd. so he's a bit of a weirdo. but I still love the overall concept of the show. future vs past. science vs magic. so if you want to see guns vs swords and jets vs dragons, I suggest this show

Gate is more than it appears to be.
On the surface Gate appears to be another isekai (different world) power fantasy anime where a modern army decimates a medieval army but battles are only a small fraction of what Gate offers. The main protagonist is an otaku like most main characters of this genre, being an anime fan isn't the main focus of Yoji Itami. In fact he is a rather competent military officer, albeit a somewhat unwilling one. After Tokyo thwarted an attack of a fantasy army sent by an overly ambitious emperor - the Japanese Army (JSDF) tasks Itami to spearhead recon operations having received reports of his heroics and quick thinking during the attack. (It was actually his day off and his plans to attend a comic convention were ruined lol.)Yes there are some hilariously one sided battles between modern military with guns vs medieval army wielding nothing more than bows and spears - but much of the show is about establishing relations with the locals and learning about the culture, economy, resources, etc about this strange land (pretty much standard fantasy fare: magic, dragons, elves, etc).Unfortunately the ruling imperial monarchy is not very wise (as evidenced by their attempt to conquer our world) and makes things difficult but their unpopularity makes it easy for the JSDF to win the favor of the locals as they help them with several problems and even establish a new city of trade and commerce between our worlds. On top of all this Itami also has the burden of dealing with our politicians back home (the UN) and taking care of all the friends he makes during his adventures.Strong recommendation!
