Literary sequel
On reading this much later sequel to "The Eagle has landed", my impression was that Higgins found it hard to let Steiner go, and so belatedly devised this follow-up as a deus ex machina to bring him back to life. That's not necessarily a criticism - it's not like a Dallas-style dream sequence - but the novel gets one star less than the original because it does go over much of the same ground. It's still a page-turner, but one does get a sense of déjá-vu in places. Still a good read.

Unputdownable
Fantastic read. Fast paced action, well drawn characters, and a great story. Possibly too many characters to keep pace with at times, but it carries you along at breakneck speed. Highly recommended if you like this genre.

Dated
Had to read out of curiosity after recently seeing The Eagles Has Landed film. Film and book sequel both dated and a bit corny but great entertainment.

At times Devlin and Steiner seem a bit 'too good to be true' but then Jack Higgins is writing ...
Cracking read from the master of thriller action. A lot of the appeal comes from the presence of Devlin and Steiner, but also Higgins' use of historical detail and setting. At times Devlin and Steiner seem a bit 'too good to be true' but then Jack Higgins is writing for a British audience so he has to make his 'heroes' likable. I preferred the more 'pragmatic' Steiner of 'landed' but that doesn't detract.

A sequel as great as the original is a rare thing, and this is!
A fabulous sequel to his best seller The eagle has landed. The story runs at a great pace, with great characters revived. The story weaves in big names from the Second World War, and if this was a true story it would be a real talking point. If only there could be another story with the great invention of the character Liam Devlin.

Brilliant book.
Book was a sequel to the Eagle has Landed. Well written. Good story. Shame there isn’t another book to find out what happened to Kurt Steiner.
