After years and years of sanitary towels giving me various problems like rashes that would then last longer than my monthly cycle, I looked for an alternative. I initially looked for a towel that was allergy free, and came across an item called the Moon cup. After reading nothing but positive reviews I decided ''Why not?'' and then just before clicking the buy it now button, I had another search for similar items and found that the Diva Cup had better reviews so decided to give it a try. After all, spending almost the same amount of money on what was giving me problems and making my cycle a misery, what had I to lose if it didn't work? It arrived very quickly, thankfully just days later, I could try it out. I was a bit apprehensive at first, as being in my 40s', I had never even tried a tampon, so I was a novice as to more intimate devices. Well, it was easy to go in, the instructions are so simple to follow. Just fold the cup into a triangular shape with your thumb and forefinger, and insert it in, then leave it to get on with the job in hand. You can leave it for up to 12 hours, but being curious, I checked back several times, and each time I was amazed at the results, no leaking, it didn't hurt, I never even knew it was there, but most of all NO RASH. You just need to be comfortable with the fact that you are now dealing with your own bodily fluids, but in all honesty, I never once got any of my own 'mess' on me, the cup done all the work. Just wash it out with non perfumed soap ( I used sanex) and insert it back in. After my cycle finished i put a small piece of sterilising tablet into boiled water, and left it in it for a couple of hours. Rinsed in more boiled water, and it's ready for next time. I am going to order another one, they are meant to last years, and I trust they do, but 'just incase' as I will never go back to towels again. I have tried to convince my Daughter who is in her 20's, but as of yet she is cringing at the thought of having to be so up close and personal with her 'bits'. I have a c-sections, so mailed the company to find out what size suited me, and was told size 2. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND the Diva Cup to every woman out there. Tell your friends, colleagues, and strangers on the street as word needs to get out there that there can be freedom from the monthly curse.

I had to stop using my cup on doctors advice when I had a coil put in a year ago. Due to non-stop bleeding I’ve had to have it taken out and can now go back to using it. I have tolerated tampons and pads but really dislike them so finding this as a solution is amazing.Personally, I have found it very easy to use, inserting and removing it is perfectly fine but I have no problems learning and knowing my body and it can’t go anywhere so as long as you’re not stressing yourself out and you can hook a finger around the rim to break the seal your okay to go. I’d suggest though that if you have a high cervix to try different brands as some have valves or thinner silicone so that releasing the seal is easier. I only suggest that because unless you have longer fingers you may have to reach a little further and it can be uncomfortable for some.Benefits of using a cup with a lighter or medium flow is that if you can manage 8-12 hours without emptying it, just emptying it in the shower at bedtime and in the morning means no additional messyness. You can freshen up at the same time and because you’re reinserting it straight away towel drying after your shower means you don’t have to either swap to dark towels or have wash them every day for smears.I have used cups for years previously. No dryness or tugging or mess and my periods reduce by between 2 to 3 days due to the negative pressure. I have nearly no pain whatsoever and my first few days achy pressure is pretty much non existent when I use the cup. Again, I think my body just likes the negative pressure and responds positively. £30 for one cup that has previously lasted me 6 years before I stopped using it is pretty good going so I’ve bought the same one again now. Next is to stop using disposable liners on these days and swap to period pants. I will be scouring the internet for some good bargains.Bottom line is I feel so much better with my cup in now, I can’t feel it AT ALL and I feel so much more in control of my monthly’s.
