Portable, capable 3D scanner

This scanner comes in a nice, molded carrying case so you can safely keep all the accessories together. The unit is much better built than my previous Reality Scan Ferret. The software has a bit of a learning curve and struggles with shiny or glossy surfaces unless you use the recommended (but not included) spray. Overall it works well but I would recommend practicing on a few small objects before you jump right into a big project. It really helps to have a turntable or lazy Susan so you can keep the object at the correct distance.

Overhyped

Requires 3D scan spray even for objects that don't seem like they should need it

3d scanner tool for digital artists and 3d printing projects

It is working pretty well so far. I need to learn and experiment with it a lot more, and will try to update my review if there's anything notable. It's nice to have an option for 3D scanning at home as a very versatile crafting and art tool, especially for 3d modeling and sculpting projects. The software takes a little getting used to, but that's not unexpected either. It's nice that it includes a turntable and tripod, it will be fun to experiment more with this.

EXTREMELY DIFFICULT

I don't know if I have a defective unit, if I'm stupid, or what but I just can not get a good model out of this, you have to be an EXACT distance away from it, and it has to be a certain material or be covered in a special evaporating coating that is kind of pricy. I have a Ryzen 7 7700X and a 4080TI and it took a LONG time to process a small simple model< I ended up getting bored and just recreated it myself quicker with calipers. I tried with this thing I really did but no matter what I did I couldn't reliability get a good, and useful scan out of it. It FEELS like everything is there, it FEELS like it should be capable of it but it just doesn't output anything in line with that feeling sadly.EDIT: I recently picked up some sublimation spray and that really helped the scanner to see what I was unable to scan before. It'd definitely more of an art than I was expecting, and still quite difficult, but much more attainable now. Don't cheap out like I did and not get the spray, it's $35 well spent. That said the software still is pretty bad IMO, it is sluggish, convoluted, and obtrusive in a way that can make it difficult to know what you're doing, not to mention that it has no 3d maker pro branding so it feels a little sketchy to use/install.

UNFORTUNATELY - UNUSABLE

I was REALLY looking forward to this item! I took it to work to show it off to the Engineers I work with. We all had some projects that we wanted to use this for.Unfortunately, the power supply is bad - no output. For some reason, 3DMAKERPRO uses a World-Wide Universal plug - no biggy. However, this particular supply is DOA and I was unable to properly test the scanner. I used an AC power supply and crimped leads onto the two protrusions (with the USA cap off and the EU cap installed), and confirmed there was 0VDC output from the supply. (EDIT: After opening up the supply, I was able to test the non-replaceable fuse on the board, and it tested good).I was able to grab a Security Camera power supply and use that, but that is defeating the purpose of reviewing what you get in the package. The only other item I do NOT like is that you MUST have an Internet connection and create a login to be able to use this product - at least initially. Does that mean if I lose Internet, I'm no longer able to use the device, or is that just the initial setup function to enable to the scanner?I'll reach out to the vendor and see if they can send me a replacement (or a standard USA-type) power supply so I can complete my review with images, etc.(EDIT 2:) It took a week of going back and forth with the vendor about how the power supply was not working. They wanted videos, etc.etc.etc. - I get it! But at least I'm not asking for the most expensive part to be replaced - I'd even send in the power supply for them to test. Once all that was out of the way (I really wish they had read my initial submission to them which included photos and all - this would have saved time), they sent a replacement supply from mainland China. This power supply worked, so I would raise my stars to a 3, but the software just isn't "there" yet and for as user friendly as it is, it just doesn't work like other software does. What this item is missing are some rubber feet for the bottom of the turntable. I ordered some from Amazon and it makes a WORLD of difference. I've also update to 2 stars overall from 1. There are no calibration items for this to setup, you simple download file "something" from their website (which also seems to register the scanner to your PC and to their database). I tried scanning a 3D printed cube of 20mm x 20mm x 20mm for testing and the scanner didn't like it. I was able to get a good 3D scan of a small glue bottle with the label: that was 1 good scan out of a handful while trying to figure out their software which does not go to 3DMAKERPRO - it goes to "jimumeta.com" just so you are aware.
