The Art of Wire: Creative Techniques for Designer Jewelry

I liked this book more than I was expecting. There are a lot of techniques that are nicely inspiring. I’m still pretty new but I’ve gotten alot of books and I like this one more than the cover photo. It explains knitting pretty well too.

I have been an avid beader for many years... And now I'm beginning to branch out into wire work. This book is exactly what I needed: Beautiful jewelry designs, clear step-by-step photos & instructions, great tips, and covers multiple techniques. Wire working, of course, requires basic tools and the author/jewelry designer does a great job in identifying the purpose of those tools necessary for completing the projects in this book. While practice makes perfect, I can't wait to get started on my first wire-working project.

The book begins with sections on materials such as Wire (different shapes, gauges, metals, hardness, etc.), tools (all the different kinds of pliers, etc.) and basic techniques (wrapping, hammering, loops, coils, etc.). I've never seen this next subject in any jewelry-making book before, and I think it's really helpful! The chapters are divided up into "Hammered Wire", "Wrapped Wire", Wire Filigree", "Wire Crochet", etc. The projects are beautiful. There are plenty of numbered written steps and plenty of clear, close-up photos to go with each step. This is wonderfully helpful. I highly recommend this book.

The wire designs are very simple and great for beginners. If you are intermediate you will regret buying this book as I do.

AS A BEGINNER IN WIRE WRAPPING, MOST OF THESE PROJECTS ARE WELL OVER MY HEAD.BUT THE INSTRUCTIONS WITH THE GREAT PHOTOS AND USE OF THE PLIERS, MAKES THIS A GREAT INFORMATIVE BOOK IF ONLY FOR TECHNIQUE AT THIS TIME.PROBABLY THE BEST INSTRUCTIONAL PHOTOS I HAVE SEEN. AND I KNOW WITH PRACTICE AND TIME, I WILL DEFINITELY BE TRYING TO MAKE THESE PROJECTS.THIS BOOK, EVEN THO A GREAT INSPIRATION, IS MUCH BETTER BECAUSE OF THE TIME IT TOOK TO PHOTO THE INSTRUCTIONS WITH THE UP CLOSE WORK WITH THE PLIERS. IT HAS ALREADY BEEN A TREMENDOUS ASSIST AND I KNOW IT WILL BE TURNED TO OFTEN IN MY LIBRARY.NOT TO MENTION, I JUST LOVE LOOKING AT ALL THE GREAT WORKS.

I'm a jewelry instructor and I teach classes in wire wrapping cabocoons. I found most of the wrappings to be over the hill (in other words) too overly designed. However, you may like that sort of thing. I'm more into practical designs. What I did with some of the ideas was to cut back on them. This took some design rethinking on paper. Not much though. I don't recommend this book for a beginner but more advance jewelry making. It will push your thinking outside the box though if you are seeking this.

I just love this book! have worked through the different projects and they all turn out wonderfully. the step-by-step instructions and drawings are clear and easy to follow, and you cant help but make something stunning every time. I also use this book as inspiration, with the different techniques and designs leading to my own creations. really, if you are new to wire work or just want some inspiration, you cant go past this book. a real must -have.

A good book on wirework. Loved the design on the front so had to get the book. Lots of great projects and techniques. I like the use of round wire where I would normally use square. I'm going to use more of the round in my designs too! The design on the the cover is still my favorite and easier than it looks. A good addition to your jewelry making library.

This is a very well written book, with lovely designs. Illustrations are well done. One downside - despite the fact that as early as page 9 the author points out that wire thickness can be expressed in guage or mm's at no point does she correlate the two, which, given that it is a book aimed at a world market, strikes me as extremey remiss. Be warned that you will need to supply your own conversion chart, as she doesn't even include one. Spoiled an excellent book for me as it is frustrating to constantly having to break off to find out what size she is talking about.

although I have been making jewellery for a few years, I am new to wire. This book is ideal. It explains in details various techniques, show several projects you can make. I do recommend it

This book meets my needs to learn more about wire worked jewellery. The directions and illustrations are excellent; very clear and easy to follow. It is great to find a book with more advanced techniques; yet there are many easy to follow instructions for the beginner or slightly more advanced user.
