Q: Expiration date? Or manufactured date?

You need to read the fine print around the date label. Some are manufacture date but some say like a CO2 sensor have the expire date printed.

Q: Can I replace only the top without changing the base? I have the exact same model.

i had to replace 5 last year, and now i have 5 bottoms which may never be used! i truly do not think you can buy just brand new "tops"

So the system sensor 2wta-b-2 wire smoke detector is a low voltage (24 volt) smoke detector with a sound base. Low voltage smoke detectors are required when you exceed 12 smoke detectors in a residential house. Mostly in houses exceeding 5000+ sq ft you will find low voltage system sensor houses. Kiddie and first alert are line voltage (120v) smoke detectors. Most modest houses under 4500 sq ft have line voltage smoke detectors.
