Works well in the dark.

Nothing to dislike - my son uses it via a Raspberry Pi to monitor his 3d printer - very robust product and clear image in the dark or light.

Funktion

Ist am Zero nicht lauffähig - zu hoher Stromverbrauch. Umschaltverhalten Tag/Nacht nicht beeinflussbar.

Does not use normal raspberry pi camera sizing and automatic lens issues

The main camera board is square in shape and does not use the sizing found in the raspberry pi camera V1 or V2, making all cases and 3d printable cases completely incompatible. The IR Sensor trips at a reasonable light level but does so instantly with no delay, meaning if the light level "bounces" up and down at the current level you are going to hear a lot of clicking (think 20 or so times a second). This is controllable but requires code, wiring, and resistors to pull off.Camera quality itself and range or quite good. Once the final project is built, total cost came out to around $100 once you consider the 3d printing, wiring, raspberry pi zero, and cables (I used a microusb to ethernet adapter for mine cause wifi video streaming sucks). If you don't care about completely running your own hardware and software: just get a $60 prebuilt that does day/night and probably swivel for you, block it from accessing the internet with firewall rules, and save yourself the time of gathering all the parts.

Version confusion

Arducam originally made only the manual switch version of this camera. It was a pain because you had to write software (or a shell script) to switch the ir filter, which almost nobody did. It was not supported by Motion or mjpg-streamer. Also, the RPi 4 dropped the GPIO pin that controlled the filter, so it was useless. The automatic version uses the same photoresistor as the illuminators to switch the filter. That works sometimes. If brightness is in the right range, though, the filter switches constantly, and rapidly, with a noise that sounds like it will shake itself to pieces--which it will. I was going to try to hack in some hysteresis, but my camera broke before I had a chance. It doesn't look like you can buy the manual version any more. But it also looks like there are still a few manual ones in stock, so you might get one by mistake, so watch what you get.The illuminators have very short range. I used one to catch wildlife at a watering hole (okay, a tub of water). The extreme range is 4-5 feet. I used another on a 3D printer at about 18 inches, which was perfect, but the fluttering filter ruined it.If I can find a manual one, I'd try hacking mjpg-streamer...but it's a little too late for that to be useful to anyone else.
