Good Gift for Dad/Engineer
A wonderful book!I bought this book as a gift for my father and he loved it. It arrived quickly and in pristine condition with that signature 'new book' smell. The content of the book was exactly what I expected - full of beautifully detailed and high resolution images of all sorts of engines. This is a perfect gift for that dad/engineer/nerd in your life!

A perfect gift!
ENGINES--attractive, informational, fun to browse. Before putting it on a side table, I removed the paper jacket for careful storage as I always do for such a book, and was amazed and pleased to see the inner cover of the book (shown in my photo) is just as beautiful as the jacket. A perfect gift for almost anyone, but especially those hard-to-buy-for persons.

Errors in book!
I am a big fan of Mr. Grays books. This book is well enough done, and true to the character of his previous works. I found two glaring errors:- Highly refined kerosene is noted as being hexane on page 88. Very surprising to see this error given that Mr. Grey is knowledgeable about chemistry. Hexane is a much lighter fraction than kerosene, 6 carbons vs. 11 plus for kerosene.- On page 101 there is this statement: "Chevrolet has their "Hemi" engine" Wow, Chrysler has been dissed in a major way here. Did Mr. Grey do this to see if anyone really read his books?A couple of observations:- On page 14 he says that the human body is like a steam engine. Seems more like an internal combustion analogy is more apt.- In the section on electric motors he makes the statement that electric cars may have replaced IC cars be the time the book is read. Wishful thinking or what?Overall I enjoyed the book for the images and Mr. Grey's sense of humor, but disappointed in the mis-information contained.

A great accomplishment by a veteran author.
The book is very detailed and goes into (needed) detail of explanation and even “over the top” regarding certain mathematical design features. A masterpiece of coverage and explanation which I’ve come to expect from his other works. Simple to complex and with simple anecdotes along the way, it’s a very enjoyable venture into mechanics, design, and historical significance. The abundance of pictures and schematics are well served as needed. A real treat for a “mech/head”…

A comprehensive look at the dynamic world of engines
The author describes in detail how various engines work and he even made his own models of engines to help demonstrate and aid in understanding. This is a great resource to have for anyone interested in how engines work. There are also many beautiful photos, as with all Theodore Gray's books. My 11-year old has read this cover to cover and really appreciates the attention to detail in explanations as well as the author's humor.
