Great product
This seems to be very well constructed from what I can tell. I've used it many times. Love the ammeter it has. Works great, can't think of anything that I did not like. If you have a desire for one of these, I HIGHLY RECCOMEND THIS ONE!!!

Variable Voltage
Works great with the variable voltage adjustment. I'm using it to test and repair tube amps.

I didn’t know I needed a Variac transformer, …
I bought an old radio that I didn’t want to just plug in and slam the ancient circuits (capacitors) with 120v after sitting on a shelf for years. This worked, allowing me to bring the voltage up slowly and watch for arcing and smoke. And I got both, but could shut down before damage was done. It’s very heavy and solid, and seems to be accurate! Note: Use both hands when lifting. There is no good place to grab it, one-handed. I went to move it off my bench and dropped it on my foot! Did I mention it’s heavy?? Good piece of equipment for my bench. Glad to have it and the price seemed good, compared to others I looked at.

construction
received unit in very timely manner & undamaged conditioninitial inspection showed fairly good quality construction except for one issue that is SAFETY related:the neutral/ground wire terminal internal was secured between 2 painted surfaces without a serrated star washer or bared metal surface essentially leaving the wire without continuity to the casemy application is fairly light load use so have no issue at this point so anticipate satisfactory service

Item was better than the one replaced...used in restoration of vintage audio components

Potential Safety Issue
WARNING!The product appears to function well with the exception that the power on/off switch does not function (other than lighting up red in the on position) and power is active to the outlet plugs as soon as the transformer is plugged in no matter what position the on/off switch is in. I just discovered this problem today when I switched off the units power switch only to come back later and find the heater elements that were connected to the transformer's outlet plugs were still energized.
