Acme TAP High Speed Steel Choice of Sizes (1/4" x 16 TPI Acme Set RH & LH)

I used this tap to thread a Bronze lead screw nut for a product I invented. It worked better than I expected. I will be purchasing more of these as needed during production. The threads were very clean and matched the 1/4"x16 ACME lead screw material.

Worked for making a new leadscrew nut

I tried to tap a piece of 3/4" 304 stainless steel rod and the tap gave out halfway though. It started loosing teeth, even with a perfect alignment with the aid of a drill press centering and manual twisting the bit. I even re-sharpened the tool and it lost the tips of a few teeth right away again.This might be a good tool for repairing threads, tapping thin material or aluminum. Either way, it should be labeled 'light' duty for new buyers.

Used to repair the cross slide nut on my 9" Logan Lathe model 400 in a rather unorthodox way but it worked out extremely well. Reduced the backlash to pretty much unnoticeable (at least for now). When it eventually wears out ill be using this tap to make a new cross slide nut out of a chunk of brass !! At least for me, this left handed acme tap size is sorta hard to find so, I'm glad I was able to get it super fast through Amazon.

The media could not be loaded. I've never done Acme threads so I was apprehensive about tapping by hand,at home and not at school, but it cut beautifully without issue. Fits perfectly with McMaster-Carr LH 1/2-10 screw. I tried posting the link but it's against TOS. But it's a perfect fit. I'm using this as a retrofit on my 4 Southbend 9 A's.

Well worth the money for these two taps, 1/4-16 RH and LH. This is my second order from MPI, will look toMPI taps before buying elsewhere.

Did an excellent job of tapping a cross feed nut.....nut was new, made in China and NOT to specification....thread was .010"/.015" undersize and would not ho on the cross feed screw....nut purchased from the 'other' website.
