Q: how does rain gauge work

FoggDawg, you certainly could have said more, so I'll do it for you. The rain collector funnels rain down inside the unit where there is a lever with the fulcrum in the middle. A small cup on either end of the lever will catch the rainwater from the funnel when it is in the up position. Once a cup is full that cup drops down, emptying itself and the water just runs out of the unit to the ground, and it activates a sensor. This puts the other cup into the up position and that cup begins catching the rain from the funnel. Once that cup is full the same thing happens and the cycle is complete. Each time a cup drops down and empties, the sensor activated will increase the count of rain. I'm not certain about this brand and model, but often this design of weather station is calibrated such that area covered by the funnel, and the mass required to move the lever is equivalent to 0.01" of rainfall, so each count of the rain sensor adds that to the total.

Maybe 0ut the sending unit right next to the weather station. Check batteries of course. If okay when really close, then experiment where all reception works. If not, it could be broken. PS: Why do clowns answer by saying they don't know? Aggravating.

Up to 1 inch. We have occasional high winds, I used 1 inch but you can go with 3/4, 1/2 inch.

It shows daily, weekly and monthly.
